Roll forming is a continuous bending operation in which sheet or strip metal is gradually formed in tandem sets of rollers until the desired cross-sectional configuration is obtained. Roll forming is ideal for producing parts with long lengths or in large quantities.

PROFIL is the roll form design software for every manufacturer of cold roll-formed profiles or seamed tubes from sheet metal and for designers of roll formers and tube mills.

What Is Roll Form Design Software

PROFIL enables quicker working and cost reductions in planning, design, calculation and drawing of the profile, the flower pattern (bending steps) and the roll tooling.

Working with PROFIL is like working with a CAD system: The drawing of the profile, the flower pattern or the roll tools is permanently displayed on the screen.

PROFIL offers three software-based quality management options for designing roll tools for roll formed profiles and tubes.  They enable the designer to verify his design in order to increase the reliability, giving confidence that the designed rolls will be able to form the profile shape with the desired allowances.

Roll forming simulation software

simulation of roll forming process: Roll forming is a well-known process used to manufacture long sheet metal products with constant cross-section.  to avoid forming defects and to reduce the process development efforts, finite element analysis can be used to predict strain distributions and sheet geometry during and after the process.

In roll forming quality of products is highly dependent on the process parameters.  some of the Effective parameters are bending angle increment, strip thickness, flange width of section, web width of the section, friction in the roll and strip contact, speed of roll, and distance between the roll stands.  It is so important to consider these parameters for roll forming process design.

There are several CAD programs available on the market for the design of roll-formed products, forming rolls, and roll pass sequences.  such as:

Roll forming process parameters

  • (1) TinkerCAD

  • (2) FreeCAD

  • (3) BlocksCAD

  • (4) Creo

  • (4) Fusion 360°

  • (5) Solidworks

  • (6) AutoCAD

  • (7) CATIA

Rolling forming process parameters do not play a major role in the quality of the final product. Optimal design can increase accurate and flawless products without increasing the cost of the roll form line.

The speed of the rollers plays a major role in determining the quality of the rolling product. Tensile strength, flow stress, deformation heat, roll force, and heat transfer coefficient are all controlled by direct rolling speed. Therefore, rolling speed can consider as one of the important rolling parameters.

Strain rate is another parameter that plays a vital role in the quality of the rolled product. Strain velocity can correlate with roller velocity. can say that the strain distribution in high-speed rolling is more homogeneous.

What is a roll forming process?

About Roll Forming machine Design, A Collection of rolls design according to the forming process (roll flower) design and adapt to form the steel sheet gradually. long production line with more than twenty stands of rolls causes the forming defects of the twisting, and the bowling, and the swinging, and the wrinkling, and the spring back of the sheet blank during the cold roll forming process. The roll forming process involves feeding a flat strip of metal through a series of rollers that gradually bend the metal into a desired shape. The rollers are designed to apply a specific amount of force to the metal, which results in a precise bend. The metal strip is fed through the rollers continuously, resulting in a long piece of metal that has been formed into the desired shape.
